This Box is one item of the left- over of the Israeli Army, Prior to 1948. It’s drawers were used at the time, to preserve the files of immigrant Jews who were coming from the world to be settled in the Palestinian cities of Haifa, Majdal- Jaffa- Safad and others; meanwhile, the Palestinian inhabitants of these cities were deported and transformed into “Refugees”.
Now, within this box is the life of my father- from his happy child hood-days, in majdal, through his forceful deportation to Jabalia Refugee Camp to his toil in his old age to support us to his sickness and death.
Note :
This exhibited Object is lacking some thing essential: The mattresses that were hung on the left side of the drawers and indicating that “Jews coming to Al- Majdal” have been forcefully removed, together with 6 other cards pointing to the arrival of Jews to the Palestinian cities. The Israeli tax Officers removed all of these items, and they confiscated the box itself for 3 months, and so the box could not participate in an artistic biennially held at that time. |
